Encoder setup

Postby joel » Mon Mar 24, 2025 5:03 pm

Hi,

I am using UCCNC software 1.2.117 with an AXBB-E controller. I am having an issue with the encoder. I am using an optical 360ppr ABZ encoder hooked up to port 2, A is pin 1, B is pin 2, Z is Pin 3.

In the software for the spindle, I defined the AB pins as described and the Z wire to the Index signal also defined as described.

My encoder turns twice for every 1 revolution of the chuck, so I set the PPR in the software to 2880 ( PPR X 4 X 2 ), for the Index pin I set the index prescaler to 2 ( 2 pulses per revolution of the chuck ).

When I try to use a move that needs the index pulse ( like G33 ), nothing ever moves.

When I set up PID control, it seems to use the AB signals and not the index signal. If I change the prescale value, nothing else changes.

I can see the port LEDs change as I rotate the chuck by hand. The index signal seems to be getting ignored.

Any thoughts? Is there another setting I'm missing somewhere?

Thanks!
joel

Try to change the encoder count direction in the settings.

OK, this worked. Is the AB definition not a standard? The way it is wired, A it to A in the SW.

Changing A with B only changes the direction of counting.
The counting can be changed with exchanging encoder A with B or exchanging the motor positive rotation direction.
So, there is no standard for which one is A or B because it also depends on how the motor is wired and controlled.
