Some problems with custom screen.

Postby kig23 » Sat Mar 31, 2018 8:56 am

I'm working on a new screen, but i've some problems. The resolution of my monitor is 1366/768. In the screen editor i've set resolution 1366/747 (768 - 21 pixels the thickness of the title bar). The image that i'm using is 1366/747 pixels. You can see the result from the attached images. I have no knowledge of opengl, only basic stuff. I know that not all graphic card accept resolution different that 2^n. Maybe to avoid the problem with some cards uccnc resizes the images to 2^n images. Is it possible that the problem that I have is due to the resizing of the image by uccnc? Am i missing something? I've attached only pieces of the images to avoid loading large files. Thanks for your help.

Do you have a jog flyout bar on the left? Are you allowing for that?

Before I start with a screen, I maximize UCCNC, and do a screen capture, to verify the actual size of the background image. I don't see any resizing of my screen, but it does appear to display some subtle color changes.

Thanks for your replay. Yes, i've the jog flyout bar. I did the same thing like you. I did a screenshot of fullscreen uccnc and take the measures. If you zoom the images you'll see the difference. Seems that it tightens vertically.

Hi Gerry,
is it possible that the problem is in the windows buttom task bar. When the task bar is blocked windows resizes the client area. I've to check this and i'll be back with info. Thanks again

I always keep my taskbar hidden, and design my screens with the hidden taskbar.

No pixel perfect show of the image is probably because the client area has different dimensions than what you think is.
Gerry gave a good idea to printscreen and measure the pixels count.

The minor color difference can be due to the image compression which depends on the particular video card's supported compression method and so the algorithm the UCCNC can use via OpenGL.
Remember that OpenGL is just a recommendation, but how it is implemented by different graphics card vendors on different graphics card is a different thing.

What the UCCNC do is it checks what compression methods are available with asking the graphics card and then using one of these methods in the order of how I typed them:

GL_COMPRESSED_RGBA_S3TC_DXT3_EXT
GL_COMPRESSED_RGBA_S3TC_DXT5_EXT
GL_COMPRESSED_RGBA
GL_RGBA

The last method is no compression, it is used if no compression is available on the card.
And the before the last is the default compression method of the card if the first 2 methods are not available.

So, depending on what the card supports and how that method is implemented there may be some minor color differences.

The problem was the task bar. Thanks Gerry. But there is pixelate part close to the writing "Start".

As CNC Drive mentioned, the images are compressed, which can change colors, and cause artifacts. There's not much you can do about it.
I've tried doubling the image size, but it doesn't really seem to help on backgrounds. But It does sometimes work for buttons, if they aren't as sharp as they should.

Gerry is it possible to ask you to check for me the screenshot of UCCNC. If you can help just let me know where to send you the file. I get 1366/747 pixels without the title bar, but maybe i'm missing something. Thanks
