There is an info line where you can see what will happen when you start probing.

The difference between rectangle and circle probe is that in cirlce mode before it probes axis 1 it centers the probe in axis 2 to get a better precision. Notice that the first probe (in axis 2) is only a fast probe to get close to the center.

This is true for the outer probe, so maybe, you selected outer rectangle instead of outer circle.

Thank you for reminding of that info button!

So far I have only done the Outer (far RHS option on probe page 1) and circle inner. Reading the info all makes sense now and the circle-inner probing is working exactly as its supposed to.

There's an info field that I wrote about, not the button:

probing info.png

When you change probe mode or axes this field updates and shows what will happen if you press the start probing button.
