Plasma cutting - G04 and THC Enabled

Postby beefy » Sun Oct 18, 2020 11:53 pm

Hi Balazs / Dezsoe,

assuming THC is enabled, and we have this simple code:

M3 (Fire torch)
G04 0.5 (Half a second pierce delay)
G1 X20 Y30 (Commence XY moves)

This is my big question:
Is UCCNC programmed so it will WAIT for Arc OK before the G04 delay period starts ?

Or will G04 execute even if the Arc OK signal has not arrived.

The reason I ask this is that I've realised my torch can take about 0.4 seconds to fire when the post cut airflow is on. This is because to fire the torch during post cut airflow, the airflow must be cut off, the internal electrode moves back under spring pressure and contacts the inside of the nozzle, then the air turns on again to push the electrode away from the nozzle and initiate a new arc.

So if I have a peirce delay of 0.5 seconds as in the code above, but my torch takes 0.4 seconds to start the arc, I'm only getting 0.1 second of pierce delay (i.e. if the system does not wait for Arc OK before executing G04).

I am interested in the question and what might be the answer.

However on a side note, is it not supposed to be "G04 P0.5" Or is the "P" not needed.

I think G4 will execute no matter if the arcOK is on or not, but should be tested to be 100% sure.

OK thanks Balazs.

Greolt,

yes that's correct, I should have put a "P" before the delay duration.
