spindle will not reverse direction after rigid tapping cycle

Postby craig » Sat Sep 28, 2024 11:20 pm

Spindle motor is a step/direction controlled Allen Bradley servo motor. I have it working great as a spindle and a c axis. BUT, after completing a rigid tap cycle the spindle will only run in reverse. Looking at the axbb-e in/out monitor page, it is not changing state on the direction pin. I am using the same port/pin for spindle and c axis as it goes to the same servo drive. Any advice?

Did some testing. Tap goes in (ccw spindle), reverses out (cw spindle). If i do a short ccw move at the end , then the spindle is fine. If not, the spindle will only run in cw and axbb-e is not changing the state on the direction pin. For now, at least i know how to work around it.

We already have turn working, but in development release 1.2117 only.
I don't really know why Mach3 is not changing direction for you with the threading.
It is good to hear that you found a workaround and yes, you can add multiple tapping cycles next to eachother forming one thread, the controller syncronises these movements together.
