Hi,

I am converting an RC-210E to CNC. I have the X and Z axis working fine. I can see how to hook up the encoder but not sure how to tie it in functionally.

Can the encoder be used for both chuck position and for speed control at the same time? For position control for threading, how is that set up or does it just work?

For speed control, the lathe uses a BLDC motor. The controller uses a 0-5V signal for speed and a high level on either a forward or reverse pin to enable the motor.

I'm using an AXBB-E for the controller and 1.2.117

Just incase it is of interest to anyone,

My RC-210-E conversion is now functional and working well. What I did,

I'm using an AXBB-E
I kept the BLDC controller that came with the lathe
I replaced the 1000PPR AB encoder with a 360PPR ABZ encoder
I replaced the 36V 4A power supply with a 9A 24V power supply and added a 5V DC/DC converter for the AXBB
A NEMA 23 2.8A 178 ozin stepper
A 4A mini stepper driver

Everything fit in the enclosure with some rearranging.

I moved the BLDC driver from the rear cover to the side facing the pulleys
I mounted the AXBB on the side facing the chuck
The new power supply is mounted to the rear cover
The added stepper diver is mounted to the base behind the existing stepper driver.

It all fit with just enough room to get to things.

I need to make a new chip guard for the back to clear the cross slide stepper, but the lathe is usable without

Considering the stated 50KHz sample rate for the encoder, with the 360PPR encoder I'm at 48KHz at 1000RPM ( my encoder turns twice per 1 revolution of the chuck ). I can go to 1250 RPM with the current pulley set up which would be 60KHz, still seems to work fine.
