Ok, speculating here but remember to complete a circuit you need a complete path. If there is RFI on the outbound from the VFD, there will be RFI on the return to the VFD. The is going to absorb RFI (most I would guess) and dump it to earth. Remember part of the the VFD is a frequency manipulation, the F in RFI.

I should take an AM radio near the router to test this.

In China, as I understand it, they don't use ground (hearsay). We do in the US unless it's double insulated. Cheap .

A shield does not take the place of the ground wire.

Most do not have the 4th pin wired to the body, but it should be added for safety reasons. Without it, a short could kill you.

I am noticing most VFD's appear to use the same PD registers. PD001, 2, 3 etc looks the same within various VFD brand framilys.

This manual is the most comprehensive I have seen. They use F00 rather than PD00 but it's not complicated.

It is obvious that this StepperOnLine manual is for reference only, with the Huanyang manufacturer's manual settings taking precedence.

A better written manual explains settings; in this example, far better than Huanyang manuals. In that regard you can benefit from better written manual's explanation. Huanyangs manual is minimalist, stepper's is verbose.
