Axbb-e wiring questions.

Postby Stock3000gt » Wed Nov 13, 2019 6:25 am

I am a little confused on this. In the wiring diagram for the axbb-e has a relay with the hook up going to a u+ and u- on the spindle decoder.

1. What's a spindle encoder?
I am using a teknomotor 2.2kw spindle
Acs150 vfd
2. Is a relay needed to turn on and off the spindle when using uncnc software?
What would be the proper way to wire these?

Any help is appreciated this is the most confusing part of my setup and I always like to understand what I am working with.

A spindle encoder is used on milling and lathe spindles to track the position of the spindle. They are required for lathe threading and rigid tapping.

Router spindles do not use encoders.

A relay is the most common method of starting and stopping the spindle. The VFD will usually have a FWD or RUN digital output, The relay connects this output and the VFD digital ground terminal.

I noticed the relay is wired with the same power supply as the drives. The relay has 24v DC on it in the diagram but my drives will be getting 48v so how does that work?

Would it be good to use a solid state relay for this application?
