Manual digitizing using Haimer 3D sensor

I'm not sure if this is possible with any existing plugins, and it's perhaps an odd request but does anyone know if it's possible to perform manual digitizing, e.g. such as with the ProbeIt plugin but essentially by jogging the machine around manually, finding edge or bore zero with a Haimer 3D sensor and then pressing a button on screen to record the position, and then export to a file?

I know i should probably buy a probe and this will take ages for anything complex, but i only really want to do this once to reverse engineer something on a simple ish part but needs to be more accurate than i can probably manually measure.

I know I could probably just use the DRO to do this the really hard way....

Hi rajjinator

If you haven't played w/ ProbeIt in demo mode, give it another try. You can manually record location points also without needing to use a probe connected to an input as the trigger. There is a button in the upper part of the screen, next to DXF and CSV controls for taking manual points. Points recorded will go into DXF or CSV saved files.

you can also free jog and record location points without probe triggering required.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the reply. I did try probeit and i also noticed that button. However when i pressed it nothing seemed to happen. I think i was expecting it to start placing points on the 3d display but it didn't seem to be doing anything! I'm probably doing it wrong, or perhaps it doesn't work like that?

Thanks,

Hi Rajjinator,

Indeed, I introduced a bug into the manual point recording at some point, and you found it. The data does record, and would have saved to a CSV file for you, but due to a mistake on my part, you were not seeing/recording DXF data in the viewer and it wouldn't save the data to the DXF file.

I added an option on the 'misc settings' tab to set the record Pt circle diameter size, but didn't properly handle for a case if the diameter was left at zero in the settings. I'll add this to the list of things I need to fix :) Thanks for pointing it out.

Eric
